The Congress
According to the World Health Organization between 2015 and 2050, the percentage of people over 60 will almost double, highlighting that the population’s aging pattern is much faster than in the past. Therefore, all countries face significant challenges to ensure that their health and social systems are prepared to face this demographic change.
This population aging trend increases the prevalence and incidence of health problems associated with age and the decline of different physiological systems, among which we can highlight those of a neurological nature such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or in its earliest phase Mild cognitive impairment on the one hand, and those of a functional type such as frailty and physical condition on the other. The most direct consequence of the increase in the incidence of these diseases is the partial or total loss of the autonomy of the people that generates a high dependency index.
In the last years, it has been suggested that exercise is a powerful tool that could modify different aging hallmarks, OMICs, brain and physical dimensions in older people. This makes physical exercise as an emerging therapeutic strategy that can mitigate the health consequences of aging on molecular hallmarks, brain and physical condition. However, the controversial findings and the heterogeneity of the studies published, make it difficult to draw conclusions about the optimal intervention to obtain physical and brain benefits in aging. Researchers from around all the world are investigating how exercise is related to telomeres/telomerase, OMICS, brain and dementia and frailty in older people.
The present International Virtual Congress has been organized with the aim of gathering together top-experts from different countries in the abovementioned topics. This meeting will bring together different point of views over the exercise, aging and health, which will encourage interesting debates between speakers and attendees.
The MOVE-IT Research Group welcome all people interested in the topic to join us in Cádiz (Spain), on May 13th- 14th, 2021. All attendees will have the chance to send their abstracts and present their studies as oral communications or posters during the congress.
